    • Also, ensure that the desired goods and services aren't already covered under another benefit before purchasing with the allowance.

The health plan recognizes that as end-of-life approaches, comfort, quality, and dignity are of utmost desire and importance. In this aim, items may be needed and appreciated that are not otherwise covered under the health plan benefits.

The hospice care support allowance of $500 is a supplemental benefit that allows for the purchase of goods or services that are not covered by the health plan benefits. These goods or services should be related to providing comfort and improving the quality of life while receiving hospice care. Some examples include, but are not limited to:

Before spending the allowance on any items, check with the health plan to ensure those items are not covered under another benefit. Reserve the allowance for items that truly are not covered.
